At out Inter District Twin Club Installation Ceremony
A Day with underprivileged children at Tapuriaghata
Today Rotaract Club of Calcutta North East organized its first Project for the Rota Year 2009-10.We went toTapuriaghata Nari Kalyan Samity,a school for underprivileged children. The School is located in the interiors of Chingrighata. We had to walk almost 4kms through a EM bypass bylane to reach the School and it felt as if we were in a village, with ponds, fields and quaint huts on each side. The School is a voluntary organization run by some members of a local club.
Since the people living in the area are extremely poor and Mothers go out to work in the morning to run the household.the little kids were mostly left alone, whiling away their time doing nothing, the “better off “people in the locality have formed the School so that these children could do something constructive.not wasting their time.
The little children in the School welcomed us with chandan and hand made roses. We were all stunned to se kids as small as 3years waiting for us and the entire room decorated to welcome us.Rtr.Arani Datta first introduced us and the work we do.rtr.Tania Das then gave a briefing of what we would like to do for the School in futute and then president Rtr.Atisha Ghosh gave a small speech thanking the authorities for giving us such a wonderful opportunity. The little children then displayed some of their skills.some recited poems, some danced while some sang.We were all awed at their enthusiasm and zeal.We then distributed notebooks, pencils, rubbers, sharpeners, scales and food packets to these kids.We encouraged them to study harder and get established in life,so that they can look after their families better.
The programme ended with the singing of the National Anthem.Food packets were also given to the Teachers and other School authorities. After spending such a wonderful Sunday morning we left amidst loud cheers and thank Yous,Promising them to come back again sometime in the near future. On the whole.this programme filled us all with a greater desire to serve the society in whatever small way we can,so that we can improve the lives of these people, even though it may be very small attempt!
